History

After the formation of Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti in 1953 , it most important task for the establishment of a permanent structure was the main criteria of the organization.

Mahendra Kumar Barua was a renowned businessman of his time  and was a devout Sankari  and who was also the Joint Secretary of the Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti  was well connected to the entire region due to his line of work. He identified a central place in middle of the Paltan Bazaar in  Guwahati city and filled up a pitch of 25 ft in order to make build up the structural building  of Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti. The land   size was 8 bigha 4 kathas and 11lecha plot. There he established a Naamghar where Sankari culture , Bhaona and art and culture was practiced on regular basis. Initially procuring the land for the Samiti was a Hercules  task but finally the land was procured and the Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti found its permanent place of residence.

Just like Sankardev, Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti faced its share of challenges. At that very phase of establishment  the Dr Bhubeneswar Barua and Haramohan Das  passed away .And thus new President was chosen namely Surendra Nath Chaliha and  Annaram Barua was the Secretary  of the Samiti . The Samiti made a budget of 1 crore initially for the establishment of of Kirtanghar, Manikut, Naatghar, Library. And as per the blessings of Gurujan , on 20th November  1957 the foundation stone of the Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti was  laid among the great devotees and many distinguished guests.
