Srimanta Sankardev’s Naamghar establishments where all the cultural and religious ideologies were followed found its places in nook and corner of every part of Assamese villages.

The society was beautifully sculpted with the values and faith of Sankari ethos in these Naamghars. As generations passed on cities started emerging in the cosmopolitan scenario and so did migration of people continued to cities from villages.  And the need for established Naamghars was also necessary in the heart of the city. That is how the inception of Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti took shape with the vision of following the path of Srimanta Sankardev’s cultural and religious ideologies and weaves the society with his ideologies and way of life.

Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva : a glimpse into his life and contributions

Mahapurusha Srimanta Sankaradeva (1449-1568) was a great social reformer, who sanskritized the ethnic groups of the volatile North East India and assimilated them with the national main-stream of India. He is considered as the father of the modern Assamese community. He was a cultural maestro too. He created a classical dance form now known both as Sankari dance and Satriya dance. He also evolved a school of classical music, which is named after him. He created as many as 25 Rāgas of his own. He was also the first playwright in all modern Indian languages. Above all these, he was the first prose writer in the entire world. He introduced drop-scene and elevated stage in the world of drama way back in 1468 CE.

Life and Works of Madhavadeva

Madhavadeva’s father Govinda Bhuyan was an accountant of Pratap Rai, the king of Banduka, presently in Rangpur district of Bangladesh. Forefather of Govinda had earlier migrated from Kannauj along with other Bhuyans. Govinda married a girl named Anuchita in Banduka. Anuchita died at an early age leaving an infant son, Damodar. When Damodar grew up, Govinda transferred his office to Damodar and set out for Assam with some merchandise. He reached Tembuwani and was glad to find the Bhuyans residing there. Srimanta Sankaradeva persuaded him to marry again and arranged a match with his cousin Manorama. Srimanta Sankaradeva also appointed Govinda as ‘Bora’ or a revenue officer of the Bhuyan kingdom at Rowta.

After the formation of Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti in 1953 , it most important task for the establishment of a permanent structure was the main criteria of the organization.

Mahendra Kumar Barua was a renowned businessman of his time and was a devout Sankari and who was also the Joint Secretary of the Srimanta Sankar Krishti Bikas Samiti was well connected to the entire region due to his line of work.
